Fort Jacques fait parti du réseau de défense créé par l'empereur Jean-Jacques Dessalines pour défendre l'île libérée. Ce fort a été nommé en son honneur. Il n'a pas subi le même abandon qui a affligé Fort Alexandre. Il a fallu une année pour achever sa construction.
Fort Jacques is part of the defensive system created by Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines to defend the newly freed island. This fort was named in his honor. It has not suffered the same decay that have fallen on Fort Alexandre. It took a year to complete the construction.
